news-details

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced on Jan 2, 2023  that 41 welders from Indonesia arrived to the Incheon International Airport on 31 December, 2022. This is the largest number of foreign workers entering the country since the government has eased restrictions on foreign inflows to solve a labor shortage in the shipbuilding industry.

They will work at SHI Geoje Shipyard after completing industrial safety and professional in-depth training.

The number of foreign workers at SHI and its partners increased to 782 by the end of last year, and this year, SHI plans to expand it to 1,200 to address the labor shortage.

SHI has implemented various support measures and accident prevention measures such as dormitory services, adding local foods to the menu, providing professional interpretation services, incentives, safety educational videos and preparing religious events.

"We have created a task force team for production worker recruitment and will actively respond to the recruitment of not only domestic workers, but also foreign professionals", said an official from SHI.
